1. Dr Austin Vo – Orthopaedic Surgeon

Address: Suite 70/166 Gipps St, East Melbourne
Contact Details: +61399286388
Dr Austin Vo thoroughly tailors every treatment, even for the most common injuries.
One person we spoke to had a stubborn case of impingement syndrome. Dr Vo walked him through the difference between a standard arthroscopic repair and the newer, minimally invasive techniques he’s adopted.
We like that Dr Austin tries to minimise trauma to the surrounding shoulder tissues by making small surgical incisions. Smaller incisions mean less scarring, less pain and a faster healing time for his patients.
Plus, he stays hands-on during recovery. He checks in on his patients to make sure their rehab is on track, rather than leaving it to physios.
A patient told us that after his robotic-assisted total knee replacements, Dr Vo’s careful planning led to smoother recoveries and fewer complications.
But it’s not all smooth sailing: there is a bit of a wait to get an initial appointment. One patient admitted she had to wait at least 2 weeks for an opening.
Always treated with professionalism, kindness and care
“Two weeks post operation, and my shoulder has never felt better. From the first visit, through to the surgery and aftercare, I was always treated with professionalism, kindness and care. I cannot recommend Dr Vo enough, anyone that is having shoulder issues, he’s the man for you. Two weeks after my surgery I have zero pain and nearly full movement.”

We would highly recommend
“My 89 year old mother had a Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement which was performed by Dr Vo.The operation was a complete success despite negative information by other Doctors encouraging against it due to her age.
Almost immediately after the operation she was free from pain, and it has now been 3 months where she has practically full use back into her shoulder. Alongside the exceptional service she received from Cathy who went above and beyond to help my mother in the lead up to the operation, we would highly recommend anyone that is seeking help with their shoulder injury to go and see Dr. Vo.
A very positive outcome, with her regaining her quality of life.
Thankyou Dr Vo & Cathy”

2. Central Melbourne Orthopaedics

Address: 417 &, 418/100 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne
Contact Details: +61396391300
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 9 AM to 5 PM
Central Melbourne Orthopaedics has a reputation for tackling the cases that make other surgeons hesitate. Professor Peter Choong, the main specialist, is the person people turn to for limb-sparing tumour removals or tricky joint reconstructions.
One former sarcoma patient told us that Professor Choong’s careful limb-sparing technique didn’t just save her ability to walk; it also renewed her confidence.
We love how he demystifies major surgeries like hip and knee replacements, explaining every step and possible risk in plain English.
After more than 30 years in surgery, he’s seen just about every curveball a case can throw. He handles complications with a calm, methodical approach that puts people at ease.
He doesn’t rush his patients out the door, either. We like that he spends extra time with nervous patients, going over scans and what comes next until it all makes sense.
The only downside? The paperwork. Depending on the treatment, patients might be staring down a stack of forms. One patient told us it took him almost an hour just to get through it all.
Most brilliant surgeon
“This man is the most brilliant surgeon I’ve ever seen (and trust me I’ve seen a few). He saved my leg 15 years ago and has recently performed major surgery that most others would never be able to and given me my mobility and life back. Cannot recommend him highly enough.”

My post op recovery was amazing
“I had bilateral Total Knee Replacements back in Nov 2016. Peter was the most caring & professional person I have had the pleasure of knowing. I had spent years trying to get a knee surgeon to do both of my knees together as they were both bone on bone & causing me to lose my quality of life. As I was only 63 at the time & quite active other surgeons had said I was too young & they certainly wouldn’t do the two together. Now nearly 3 yrs later I can say it was the best thing I’ve ever done. I was up walking with crutches within 8 hrs of the operation, despite having a slight superficial infection post op that was treated immediately & appropriately my post op recovery was amazing. Could also have been something to do with the equally amazing anaesthetist Dr James Koziol. I had very little post op pain, which was great. I am now learning to dance, which would have been impossible prior to the operation & enjoying life to the full. Thanks Peter & James for everything!”

3. PJS Orthopaedics Melbourne

Address: Suite 54, Level 5/166 Gipps St, East Melbourne
Contact Details: +61394284128
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 9 AM to 5 PM
Dr Parminder Singh at PJS Orthopaedics made the cut for his hands-on approach, whether it’s hip arthroscopies or patching up tough trauma cases.
One patient came in for a tricky ACL reconstruction (that’s the ligament that keeps your knee stable after a sports injury).
She really liked how Dr Singh walked them through their MRI, broke down the different graft options, and even called in another specialist to double-check the plan.
Dr Singh doesn’t just explain the steps in the procedures he does. He also explains the reasons behind them, so patients know exactly what’s happening and why.
We also like how he checks in on his patients and gives them helpful recovery advice. Another patient shared that he gave excellent aftercare advice to help them recover from their hip trauma faster.
The only issue? There is a slight wait time before seeing him. One person said she waited about 30 minutes before their initial appointment.
Fantastic from the start
“Dr Parminder Singh situated in Melbourne has been fantastic from the start . He did a hip replacement for me and as I was still very active in the Sport of Hockey ( at age 68 ) it was very important to me that I would be able to resume playing again .Eight months after the operation I was able to represent Australia in Masters Hockey ( over 65’s)Thanks to the skill of Parminder and a lot of recovery work I am fit and mobile again and hope to keep playing for another 10 years .”

If you’re experiencing hip pain …he’s your man!
“I underwent a hip replacement 8 weeks ago with Dr Parminder Singh from PJS orthopedics in Melbourne. I was experiencing significant discomfort for a couple of years before the surgery due mainly to a build up of arthritis in the joint. Walking and sleeping were both painful and I was becoming limited in completing daily activities.
The surgery and hospital care were fantastic…up and walking with crutches the very next day. Discomfort mostly disappeared within 4-5 weeks after which I no longer needed walking supports. Now I can walk comfortably for 2-3 kms and not have any resulting pain. I’m getting the best quality sleep I’ve had for years. I recommend Parminder Singh very highly as a surgeon and for the aftercare.he and his team provide. If you’re experiencing hip pain …he’s your man!”

4. Mr. Osama Elsewaisy | Orthopaedic Surgeon (East Melbourne, Donvale, Vermont South)

Address: Suite 12, Level 1/166 Gipps St, East Melbourne
Contact Details:+61399286786
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 9 AM to 5 PM
What really stood out to us about Osama Elsewaisy was his empathy. We love how he patiently listens to all his patients’ concerns before discussing treatment.
A patient who needed a tricky revision hip replacement told us that Osama spent nearly an hour with her, breaking down why the anterior approach would help her get back on their feet faster.
He also doesn’t just jump straight to surgery. One patient with osteoarthritis said he appreciated how Osama walked him through every non-surgical option first.
We also appreciate Osama’s expertise in robotic partial and total knee replacements. One woman mentioned that his precision during the robotic surgery meant she was up and walking in no time.
The only real downside is that the front desk sometimes leaves callers on hold for a while. One person said he was on call for about 20 minutes before being directed to the doctor. This can be annoying for people who don’t have time to waste.
His empathy for his patients
“Even though my ACL reco didn’t go to plan — and this was by no means Osama’s fault but just a bit of bad luck — Osama was only ever responsive, compassionate, and helped me when I needed him. I went through St Vincent’s public and got assigned to Osama by chance but I thank the heavens I did. When my recovery wasn’t going to plan, he called me personally after imaging showed what was wrong and he fixed it.
I don’t want this dissuade anyone because when they tell you “1 in 10,000 have problems”: I’m the 1 in 10,000, and it serves to reiterate that it was absolutely not Osama’s fault but instead my body chose to react in a very random way. My scar looks amazing, my graft hasn’t failed, and I’m able to do almost all day to day activities and improving day on day. Osama’s strong suit is his empathy for his patients and genuine investment in their recovery. I couldn’t have been any luckier considering I went through the public system and I tip my hat to Osama’s professionalism. I’d trust him with my life.”

Indeed genuine, trustworthy
“My Husband had a complicated situation HIP replacement, and I was recommended to use Specialist Dr Osama Elsewaisy who didn’t do the surgery. The receptionist OZ was so amicably amazing, he facilitated my husband to be reviewed by the doctor when we were in a crisis situation. Dr Osama even contacted Vincent Hospital to alert them my husband was coming due to the pain he was suffering. After some clearance from St Vincent Hospital, Dr Osama gave my husband a treatment plan. Not only the Doctor looks very handsome, but he is also indeed genuine, trustworthy, he provided more information that wasn’t given to us. Either in person or phone call, Dr Osama has been professional in my husband care, we feel safe and comfortable, and he never rushes you during your appointment. We strongly believe his one of ” THE BEST” in Australia. Thank you Doctor and your team, for all your support for our family. We highly recommend his expertise.”

5. Mr Sasha Roshan – Orthopaedic Surgeon Melbourne

Address:188 Gipps St, East Melbourne
Contact Details: +61391165589
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday – 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Sasha Rosan stands out for his focus on minimally invasive foot and ankle procedures.
When it comes to forefoot reconstruction, we like that he uses the newest techniques but doesn’t gloss over the tough parts.
Take bunion correction, for example. Sasha uses a small incision and special tools to realign the bone, so recovery is faster and the scar is barely noticeable. One patient told us she was back in regular shoes in just a few weeks.
He’s very efficient with his procedures too. Another patient who got a syndesmosis reconstruction appreciated how Sasha pointed out his torn ligament in the scan, and then quickly realigned his bones and secured them.
He’s also the go-to for people dealing with trauma or sports injuries. One athlete who tore a ligament said Sasha walked him through every step of the recovery.
The only real downside is the wait. One patient said he had to wait almost a week just to get a surgery slot with him, which seems to be the price for seeing someone this in demand.
I could not have asked for better care
“Dr Roshan and his team are outstanding. He successfully operated on my ruptured achilles in 2023. I am now fully recovered thanks to him.
Everything from his preoperative evaluation, hospital stay and post op care was professional and caring.
I could not have asked for better care.
Thank you to the entire team.”

Great empathy, compassion and care
“Dr. Sasha Roshan is absolutely amazing! He was highly recommended by multiple other orthopaedic surgeons to manage a complex foot condition due to multiple failed previous procedures with other surgeons. I had debilitating pain and limited activity but thanks to Dr. Roshan’s expert care this is no longer the case. With great empathy, compassion and care he guided me to have corrective surgery that I needed. I was obviously very scared to go once again under the knife when previous procedures with others had failed. He explained the whole process clearly and outlining a two stage procedure with long recovery. Having had realistic expectations and understanding of the recovery process was very important. I’m now completely healed and feeling great.
Highly recommended this very talented, competent and kind surgeon.”
