The 5 Companies to Trust for the Best French Doors in Melbourne

Complete Services: We looked for companies that don’t just sell doors but also handle everything from design to installation to ensure a stress-free experience for the customers.

Material Quality: We only selected the companies that offer French doors with high-quality materials, especially the ones with added value like energy efficiency and weather resistance.

Customer Service: We prioritized the companies that practice clear communication, provide reliable timelines, and know how to listen to the needs and wants of the client.

Wide Variety: We also looked into companies that offer French doors in various styles, colors, etc., to ensure that they can cater to different aesthetic needs.

As someone who likes to host gatherings at home, I always make sure that I impress my guests from the moment they walk in. And ever since I got a beautiful set of French doors for my front door, it’s all they ever talk about.

Some of them worry that it might be too fragile and unsafe for a front door, but I told them that modern French doors are different, and they’re now made to be both pretty and tough.

Going back, I remember dragging my best friends to help me look for the best French door companies in Melbourne. It was a tough ride, but we found some of the best that we highly recommend.

How much do French doors cost in Melbourne?

In Melbourne, French doors can cost between $1,300 and $2,000. The cost depends on the material, size, and added features.

Facelift for Homes is a talented and versatile team specializing in window and door replacements, including a variety of French doors made of aluminium and timber.

Back at the showroom, the staff was wonderful and took us through the possible options we could have for French Doors. We really appreciate that they focused only on what we said we needed and didn’t try to upsell anything else.

What we love about them is that they take care of everything, including installation and even all the permits needed for the project.

Let’s say you need to convert your windows to French doors, or you don’t have enough space to install one. They can handle this major structural change, so you’ll still be able to get your dream French door.

Through the initial interaction with the team, it finally made sense why many homeowners have full confidence in their projects. The attentive service really makes a lot of difference. Not to mention, the prices are more affordable as well.

We reached out to some of their past customers as well, and they told us that the team really is reliable from start to finish. There were just some reports about delays during installation.

Pros

  • Complete services
  • Versatile team
  • Wide material variety
  • Showroom available
  • Attentive and personalized care
  • Affordable prices

Cons

  • Minor delays in installation

So happy

“Facelift for Homes recently replaced our French doors and window complex with a new aluminium bifold door set, and the entire experience was exceptional. From our initial enquiry to the showroom visit and final installation, every step was handled with professionalism and care. We couldn’t be happier with the result and highly recommend Facelift for Homes to anyone looking for quality workmanship and outstanding service.”

Great work

“We needed to break out a window for French doors, and Facelift was one of the few vendors that were able to open the space and install the door. Most suppliers expected me to engage with a builder separately and coordinate between them. Dealing with Facelift was so easy, and the Team were all professional and efficient. Very happy with the work they did!”

If you’re looking for a French door that isn’t just aesthetic but also functional, Nu-Eco’s uPVC French doors are perfect for such a purpose.

When we visited their showroom, the attending staff were so accommodating and didn’t mind going over the options for us. She also took the time to educate us about the benefits and differences of uPVC from other materials.

Apart from the uPVC material, she also showed me the glass options and their thermal performance. This means we’re not bound to a single option and can control how much insulation and soundproofing the French doors receive.

We also appreciate that they were considerate of our budget. We were told that in case we found their options expensive, we could apply for a payment plan with their partner Handypay for a more flexible option with very low to zero interest.

One thing to consider, though, is that the lead time can take up to four months since they manufacture the products in the UK. Nu-Eco may not be the best option for urgent needs.

Pros

  • Excellent thermal and soundproofing capabilities
  • Variety of options
  • Complete service
  • Option for flexible payments
  • Energy-efficient upgrade
  • Reliable and attentive team

Cons

  • Longer lead time

Best investment

“The Nu-Eco double-glazed windows and French doors are the best investment we have made when renovating our 1970s house. We had them installed over 2 years ago, and since then have enjoyed a huge noise reduction – we live right beside a train line, and noise is not a problem now. We have also noticed the benefits of heat reduction in summer and that the windows and doors keep the warmth in during winter. We did not have a big budget for renovation, and Nu-Eco were very reasonably priced, also, compared with other quotes we got for similar products.  I am so glad we chose Nu-Eco and would highly recommend their windows and the service they provide.”

Big thanks

“My husband & I are extremely happy with our Nu Eco windows. They have provided us with superior insulation & they look fantastic. We are particularly happy with the degree of soundproofing. The double French doors make a great connection between inside & out & make for easy entertaining. The windows are in a very large open plan area & are virtually floor to ceiling, so we are also exceptionally happy that we don’t ever have to paint them. The installation went swiftly & smoothly – just three days to remove the old ones, in with the new ones & remove all rubbish. We couldn’t believe it was done in such a short time.”

When we visited their showroom, we saw that they had a wide variety of styles and colors for their uPVC doors and windows. But what really impressed us was the premium quality of their materials.

The attending staff told us that the materials are European, but the products are made 100% in Australia. They also told us that all products are custom-made for each client, so we say they’re a great option if you’re looking for a non-standard French door.

While uPVC is known for being energy-efficient, we were also informed about the superior security of their French doors. According to the staff, the French doors are equipped with multiple locking systems and are safe from bushfires.

We also heard from their past customers who confirmed these claims, saying that the insulation kept most of the noise out and kept them comfortable during uncomfortable weather.

One of them even shared an unsuccessful break-in through Thermotek’s door.

Some experienced inconsistent communication, but otherwise, we didn’t hear any major concerns about the service or products.

Service-wise, we found the team very attentive and accommodating.

And according to the other customers who were comparing quotes from other French door providers, Thermotek’s was the most competitive. The quotes were detailed and included everything that was discussed during the consultation.

Pros

  • Energy-efficient and secure products
  • Custom-made designs
  • Bush-fire rated
  • Complete service
  • Wide selection
  • Competitive pricing
  • High-quality products

Cons

  • Communication issues

Great

“Delighted with the French doors, sliding stacker doors, and Windows, installed as agreed, with absolutely no stress from Thermotek Windows this year. The windows in the bedroom are amazing – so quiet I can actually sleep in and much better on hot days. The installation on the second storey posed no issues or additional cost.”

Highly recommended

Thermotek recently replaced a large French window with sliding doors that span the entire width of my house. Their product is superb. The Thermotek office staff were highly professional in every aspect and a pleasure to deal with. Gav, the installer, is a delight. He is professional, courteous, and efficient. He went out of his way to attend to tiny details that made all the difference. The window he left behind is perfect and has exceeded any expectations I might have had. I can highly recommend Thermotek.”

When we heard that Armadale is one of the French door builders in Melbourne that creates bespoke French doors like no other, we wasted no time visiting their showroom.

What really caught our attention is that their French doors can be customized with decorative glass, such as leadlights/stained glass.

So, if you like to incorporate some Victorian-inspired design into your French doors, you’re free to explore various designs with Armadale.

In fact, the attending staff told us that the shop has one of the largest collections of original coloured and textured glass in the country. Some of them can even be dated back to the 1880s.

Not to mention, we’ve heard that their artistic director has over 40 years of experience in leadlight design. We were able to see some of his previous works, so we can say that he’s a really talented artisan.

To sum it up, you have unlimited options in design for your French doors with Armadale. We love that every product is customizable and handmade, so there’s really no doubt about the quality.

At the same time, we found their products a little expensive. But truthfully, it’s something to be expected, since most of the clients here come for very detailed designs.

Pros

  • Great craftsmanship
  • Decorative options
  • Custom-made and handmade
  • Great details
  • 40 years of experience
  • Full service

Cons

  • Can be expensive

Big thanks

Superb job. We are so thrilled with the quality of our new timber French doors with acoustic double glazing.  The advice from Armadale Doors was spot on with what we wanted to achieve. They custom-made our doors promptly and arranged installation on time. The carpenters were excellent and very clean and tidy when they worked. Thank you!”

Excellent

“So, so, so pleased with the fabulous leadlight that Philip made for our front door! Beautiful deco design that lets the light in but provides privacy – highly recommend Philip and his business as all our dealings with them have been great, while the quality of the leadlight and installation is excellent!”

If you’re looking for French doors that fit any space, Zen Door & Windows offers custom-made steel-frame French doors in various designs, including arched and square.

We loved that the showroom is only available by appointment, so the place isn’t crowded and you can actually take the time checking out their products. This also ensures the attending staff’s attention isn’t divided.

In our experience, the team will take the time to understand your project so they can provide a quote that matches the job, since every project is custom-made.

The personalized attention we got from them was really impressive, and it’s something that every customer deserves.

When we reached out to some of the previous clients, they also had the same experience as we did. They also shared that after they agreed to the quote, all they had to do was wait until the product arrived.

The best thing about it is that they weren’t left wondering while waiting. They said that the team provided regular updates throughout the production process.

However, Zen Doors & Windows is merely a manufacturer that can handle the design until the delivery. For installation services, clients will need to hire a separate contractor or ask Zen for recommendations.

Pros

  • Custom-made designs
  • Durable products
  • Personalized attention
  • Great communication
  • Australia-wide design

Cons

  • No installation services

Great

“Zen were great to deal with, very responsive and transparent, but most importantly, the doors themselves are fantastic and really well priced. We had two French doors and a single custom-made door. The only thing that was not quite 5/5 was a bit of back and forth during the drafting process, but to be honest, we were quite particular on what we wanted, and we got there soon enough!”

We would come again.

“We ordered a large set of black steel French doors, and we are extremely happy. They look wonderful. We are very satisfied with our dealings with John & Zen and have no hesitation in recommending them. I picked them up last week from their depot in Sydney, and the staff there were very helpful with helping me load. They were very well packed. We had them installed this week, they fitted perfectly and just look so good. Our friends and neighbors all think they look great, too. The quality and price were both excellent.”
