How much does badminton coaching cost in Melbourne?
Badminton coaching in Melbourne typically costs AUD 60–100 per hour for private lessons, while group sessions are usually around AUD 20–45 per hour.
1. The Badminton Hub Coaching

Address: 16 Wallace Ave, Point Cook
Phone: +61 437 072 138
Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 3 PM – 11 PM
- Friday: Closed
- Saturday: 8 AM – 2 PM
- Sunday: 10 AM – 6 PM
The Badminton Hub Coaching leans heavily into technical development. Grip, footwork, shot variety, and tactical awareness are all built into the session design.
There’s even a monthly focus, so players work on specific areas instead of randomly rotating drills.
We liked that the session layout is consistent and predictable. There’s a short free hit warm-up, then a proper body warm-up and strength work. Footwork drills take up a solid chunk of time, followed by different partner shot drills.
Then there’s rotating one-on-one shuttle feeding, where each player gets focused attention. Practice games usually come at the end if there’s time.
Class sizes are controlled too. Four players per court, and if numbers grow, another coach joins. That keeps things from turning into long waiting lines.
We also appreciate that their coaches send out surveys and adjust the structure over time. It shows they’re not stuck in their own system.
We also loved the smart use of technology. Booking is handled through an app, and online coaching is available. They also run sessions where players receive detailed feedback on specific shots.
That said, since sessions are mainly in Melbourne’s western suburbs, it might be inconvenient for players from central or eastern areas.
I look forward to learning more skills from him in the future!
“Thank you, Craig, for being such a dedicated coach over the past few months while I was in Melbourne. His teaching style is person-centred and really boosted my confidence in badminton. I look forward to learning more skills from him in the future! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to improve their game in a supportive environment!”

I really like the coaching format and the progressive drills we do
“…I really like the coaching format and the progressive drills we do — each month focuses on a couple of different shots, along with the footwork to match, so you can really master the skills step by step. Craig paired me with someone of a similar level, which made the sessions fun and challenging in the right way…”

Coach Ankur Bhatiya seems to be the driving force. With over 30 years in badminton, both as a player and a coach, there’s real experience behind what he does.
He focuses more on getting the foundations right than rushing kids into advanced shots too early.
We love that he puts emphasis on habits and discipline. Simple routines like collecting shuttlecocks after training are treated as part of the learning process.
We liked it because it shows badminton isn’t just about smashing and scoring. It’s also about responsibility and teamwork.
Sessions are structured but still fun. Players appreciate that they understand what they’re working on and why.
Their programmed cover beginners through to advanced players, but there’s a strong focus on juniors aged 7 to 16 here.
However, their training has limited schedules. Other coaches or facilities have longer training sessions.
I am very happy with the training quality
“My son has improved tremendously in confidence, fitness and badminton skills. The coach (Ankur )is very disciplined, patient, and truly dedicated to every student’s growth. I am very happy with the training quality and hope my son keeps improving more under his guidance.”

3. MAD Badminton Academy

Address: 8/20 Janine Rd, Springvale South
Phone: +61 401 418 443
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM
MAD Badminton Academy is led by Andrew Diep. His private coaching starts at $65 per hour per person, with a minimum of two players.
This means his coaching is more collaborative. There’s movement, interaction, and shared learning baked into his format.
From what we’ve gathered, Andrew’s enthusiasm is a big part of why people love it here.
He’s great at building a sense of community with his sessions. There are social games, and parents noted how this creates a connection between students and families.
Several parents highlighted how attentive and patient the coaches are. They can accommodate when a child needs extra explanation or a slightly different approach to grasp a technique.
They can also tailor sessions to individual needs. We also appreciate that they take note of their students’ energy levels. Coaches reportedly encourage water breaks and pay attention to their well-being.
Their approach might not be fit for everyone, though. Those who seek entirely one-on-one or high-performance training may need to consider other options.
The sessions are enjoyable for the kids
“My son has been thrilled with the progress he’s making, and I’ve been pleased to see his skills develop well under the guidance of your coaches. I’ve observed that the coaches have a very professional approach to training while keeping the sessions enjoyable for the kids. We enjoy the social games as we can foster a sense of community among the students, parents and among others. It’s really a fun way for families to get more involved and for children to showcase their progress.”

4. Pro Badminton Academy

Address: 88 Ricketts Rd, Mount Waverley
Phone: +61 410 230 888
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: 8 AM – 11 PM
We were immediately impressed with Pro Badminton Academy because it was founded by Ong Beng Teong. He’s a Commonwealth Games gold medalist in men’s doubles. This already tells us that their coaching is rooted in high-level badminton.
What’s great is that the academy doesn’t just revolve around him. All of their coaches have previously competed internationally or at high levels.
From what we gathered, their coaching is disciplined but still fun. Sessions focus on the fundamentals like technique, footwork, tactics, and game strategy.
Group classes usually run for about two hours with a 6:1 student-to-coach ratio. There are also private lessons if someone wants more one-on-one guidance.
They’ve created a great community here. Families said the academy’s like a second home for their kids. Players get to train with other strong juniors in the state, build friendships, and take part in extra opportunities like overseas training camps.
We also loved how easy it is to check their class schedules on the website. It makes planning a lot easier.
We just wish their coaching prices were also transparent online. It would help families know what to expect before reaching out.
This is a club where the coaches genuinely care for each and every kid
“…For our son, PBA has been more than just a club for him to train at. It has been a second family where he has been able to forge the closest of friendships, train with the best kids in the state, and most importantly grow as a young person. All thanks to the opportunities provided by the club such as private and group training, overseas training camps and social gatherings. This is a club where the coaches genuinely care for each and every kid, and will always do what’s best for them.”

He’s also made a lot of great friends through the club
“My son started training at Pro Badminton Academy when he was 7 years old, and he’s been with them for the past 4 years. He started with zero experience and is now playing in competitions — all thanks to the amazing coaches. We’re so grateful for their patience, dedication, and the way they’ve guided him through every step, teaching him solid technique and helping him grow his love for the sport. He’s also made a lot of great friends through the club, which has made the journey even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this academy to anyone looking for quality badminton training!”

5. Smashkaro Badminton Coaching

Address: 18 Flockhart St, Abbotsford
Phone: +61 435 245 552
Business hours: Monday to Sunday: 9:30 AM – 9:30 PM
For those who want a great deal, Smashkaro Badminton Coaching is a great choice.
The head coach offers individual and group coaching sessions. We love how straightforward he is with the details.
The individual coaching sessions cost $40 per hour, and the first session comes with a 25% discount. That offer makes it easier for players to try things out before committing to regular training.
The loyalty bonus is also a steal. After completing seven sessions, the next one is free.
We liked that he divides the sessions into levels: fundamentals, intermediate, and advanced. This way, beginners can focus on building a foundation, while more experienced players can work on refining techniques.
Students said he breaks things down. Players would really understand what they’re doing and why it works.
The group coaching sessions are slightly cheaper at $35 per person and bring a different energy to the court. He tends to mix drills with a bit of friendly competition.
It’s worth noting, though, that the coaching is handled by just one person. This becomes a con if several people try to book sessions around the same time.
The sessions are well-paced and enjoyable for all levels
“SmashKaro is amazing! 🏸 The coach is super friendly 😊 and explains everything clearly, making learning fun and easy. 💡 Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, the sessions are well-paced and enjoyable for all levels. ✅ Great vibes, great people, and great improvement! Highly recommend for anyone wanting to learn or improve! 🙌”
