How to get to Dandenong
By Train: The main train lines that serve Dandenong are the Pakenham and Cranbourne Lines.
Trains on the Pakenham and Cranbourne lines run frequently, with a journey time of about 40 minutes. This is an efficient and cost-effective option.
Via private car: Drive southeast from Melbourne CBD via the Monash Freeway. The trip covers approximately 35 kilometers and typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
Be aware that the Monash Freeway is a toll road; ensure your vehicle is equipped with an electronic tolling pass or arrange one before your journey.
By bus: While there isn’t a direct bus from Melbourne CBD to Dandenong, you can take the Route 907 bus from Swanston St/Lonsdale St to Mitcham Station. Then, transfer to the Route 901 bus towards Dandenong.
This option is less direct and takes approximately 2 hours, making it less convenient than the train.

Afghan Hayat Restaurant, for me, is one of the most unique restaurants that you’ll find in Melbourne that offers an authentic Afghan dining experience.
Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted by a spacious dining area filled with traditional Afghan décor. It includes intricately carved wooden chairs and elegant marble tables.
As for the menu, my favorite is the mantu. It’s an Afghan dumpling dish filled with minced meat and onions. Elevating the flavors, it’s topped with a rich yogurt and tomato sauce.
For a hearty main, the Kabuli pulao is a must-try traditional rice dish. It features tender lamb shank and fragrant spices, and is considered a crowd favorite.
